:Joel, Is there a modern point conversion that you would recommend?Does it require replacement of the upper plate?Has there been any comments about this on the Board? Thanks, Neil

Neil,
I'm not Joel, but I'll make a comment on modern points. There are a couple of ways to go.You can buy a new upper plate from one of the supply houses or make your own from an old upper plate. The second method requires removing the point insulator from the upper plate and drilling the plate using a jig. This is fairly critical as it affects the point timing etc.Once drilled, the "modern" points and condensor used are the Ford 289 V-8 set, available just about anywhere, including WalMart. An advantage is that the condensor is now in the upper part of the distributor instead of near the exhaust manifold.I have several of these conversions that I've done, but having said all that, I still run the original setup on my Town Sedan!Don't have any trouble with it (the original) as long as I re-adjust the points after the first 100 miles or so on a new set when the rubbing block "seats-in".
