: HELP!I have a Victorian era, free standing fireplace. It is solid, cast iron.Father time has done a pretty good job of putting a good coat of rust on the surface.I want to restore this gorgeous piece of history.I live in the greater Sacramento, Calif. area.Does anyone know of a rust removal company who could either acid-dip or "sand" blast the piece.Second question, should I Paint in a flat-black, heat resistant finish?
: I am a former Model A owner, current member of MAFCA and will become another "A" owner again (someday). I just thought someone who has a similar need in the restoration process of an automobile might be able to help. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Steve,
Another possibility you might want to explore...
Companies that do "powder coating" also have a process that they call "ceramic coating" or "high performance coating" for high temperature applications.I had a set of cast iron Fenton headers for a Chevy six cylinder coated this way and it hasn't tarnished, chipped, faded or deteriorated in any way so far.We have about 550 miles on the truck. The particular company we dealt with had three colors, silver (which looks like a dull chrome or polished aluminum), charcoal and black. The cost for the two piece manifold was $95.If you can dismantle the stove into workable pieces to be coated, this might likely provide long, maintenance-free service.
Just a thought,
John
