G'Day Scott,
Well you're now on the horns of a dilemma as you've got good feedback from both Brian & Ted. Personally I'd have the rad repaired by a reputable shop or one that'll let you stand & watch what's happening as they work. Instead of pinching off the offending tube, get them to solder either end closed once the top & bottom tanks are removed, that way the core still looks original. You might be surprised at the amount of crud found inside once the tanks are removed but at least you'll know what you've got, just make sure there's no labour chart as listed below.
Labour charge per hour $10.00
Labour charge if you watch $20.00
Labour charge if you advise$30.00
Labour charge if you help$50.00

: I haven't had to deal with radiators before and would like some advice.

: I have a small leak, about halfway up, in my original radiator. Before I take it off the car to have it repaired, should I try a radiator sealer (Barr's or some other brand)? If I should take it off and have it repaired can the leak be soddered or will the tube have to be pinched off?

: Or is none of this wise, & I should have the thing recored.

: Thanks in advance.
: Scott
