: Does anyone know of an accurate wiring schematic for a 12 volt negative ground system for the Model A?

: Specifically, what brand/kind of 12 volt coil?Placement of the black and red wires on the coil, and the need and type of dropping resistor, and how that's wired into the circuit?

: My 30 coupe is running a little rough and I'm trying to find out the causes, and the ignition system is suspect.Thanks..

Larry thats an easy conversion...but heres what I did..on my daily driver..from Hemmings I bought a 6 volt Pos. ground alternator...from someone in Paradise Calif....somthing like $120 complete with everything brackets etc...now my battery is fully charged and the wiring is stock...really worked well...

But to 12 volt..not hard...not much to change...all bulbs must be 12 volt..ampmeter does not care...just use one of those 30 amp units..the coil is of course 12 volt...the polarity of the coil always is the same as your battery...and you alternator..yes there are 12 volt Pos or Neg alternators...(guy in Paradise will build anything) but you can go 12 volt Neg ground if you like...just hook the Neg post of the coil to the points...(points are the coils ground) the ballast resistor is a common parts house item...although if you feel tricky you could use resistance wire..(to the hot side of the coil)...starter will spin faster...but will do fine on 12V...I used one for years...

But again...the 6 volt positive ground alternator is sure nicer..think about it... Joel
