george, here's my 2 cts worth---please dont even consider
drilling an axle--tampering with the design of a stressed
part is risky at best---about "steering stabilisers"--if
everything is in good order you shouldn't need one--i put
many miles on a model a as my everyday-use car back in the
60's with the standard equipment--it worked just fine---
there are reasons for hard steering, shimmy, and other
nuisances which are easily found on careful inspection--
in fact, quite a number of things--for example--tires out
of round or out of balance, lost motion in any of the king-
pins, tie rod ends, etc.--another offender might be the
sector-bushes in the steering box or the steering box
adjustment--forgive me for belabouring the obvious, but
there is no substitute for thorough inspection and refit.

hope this helps--carla
