Tubular Shock Link Question?

Posted by Fred Murphy on May 09, 1998 at 13:03:32

Just installed reproduction shock links yesterday and have a couple of questions. I was reading a partial article in How to Restore Your Model A Volume 2 page 44 when the article ended with"Note that the---" Article ends, couldn't find the rest of the article on any following pages! Question #1 which direction does the gease fittings face? I noticed the wall on the tube is thin and if I try to screw in the new grease fittings all the way they bind against the ball making it difficult to install link. The threading on the fittings seam to long.Won't the tight fit against the ball restrict the grease when I regrease it later?
One comment off the subject, anyone considering powdercoating the return springs on the brake rods,Don't do it!or for that matter don't have any small, light springs powdercoated. The process heats the springs to a high temp and makes them brittle.Brakes like a dry twig when under a little pressure.I obviously found out the hard way, hope this saves someone time and frustration.
Once Again thanks, without this board and your help I would have one sad A.
