Jim, Not knowing the specific properties of STP, I would be apprehensive to use as a gear lube. A friend has used it in steering only to have it depart at a similar rate as 140w gear lube. With considerable help from a friend, the issue is now being revisited. Different lubricants have varied restrictions, ie., some are not suitable for the rear end. It appears that the old 600W, modern 140w, and DJ's lubricant have a similar viscosity when hot (100c, 210f), but I believe there is still considerable difference at operating temperature. Hopefully we will wind this up soon and I can post the conclusions. If you are ready to run your car I would recommend going with good 140w gear lube for now since we know the lubrication qualities are among the best. Maybe by the time it runs out we will have a better option for refill!!! Regards, Marco |
