: I have a combo of allemite and zerk fittings on the car. Four of the allemite won't take grease. I want to replace with new zerk fittings. Should I tap the hole and use threaded or use the press-in fittings? Also, when I remove the old fitting, should I clean the hole in some manner???

yes, joe makes sense--and he knows whereof he speaks---
the "enthusiastic" methods for clearing grease fittings are
real--they work--but i posted them as amusement and folklore

there is no secret involved in a properly operating chassis,
smooth steering, etc.---it simply requires time, work, and
patience to strip down and inspect the working parts, then
clean and reassemble per the manual using new bushes, pins,
etc. where needed---the low pressure alemite grease system
will work properly if the grease points have not become
clogged solidly with solidified crud--its just a little bit
less convenient to use than the zerk type
