I was looking for repo fenders recently for my A but couldn't find anyone who could give me a good reference for them. I had heard as you had that the fit was not good at the splash shield on some (or all) repro's. I ended up buying some originals that were in better shape than what I had, I am working on them now.
I called Rootlieb (last summer) and they told me that they quit handling fenders. They didn't make them there and were shipped in from another company anyway.
I got the name of another company from Hemmings I was going to call but never did. It is
