: Due to faulty rear seals, the emergency brake lining (woven type) on my A has become impregnated with bearing grease. With the exception of the grease, they linings appear to be in very good condition.Does anyone know of a method for removing the grease thereby making the brake linings usable? If posible I,would like to avoid the time and expense of replacement.Thanks.

hi joe---in my opinion --you would do better to buy new best
quality linings, and take them to a competent specialist shop
to be riveted on--you could look in the yellow pages for a
friction materials shop which does heavy truck and industrial
clutch and brake work---however--if you wish to clean up the
existing ones--you might try soaking them in lacquer thinner
awhile--then putting them into fine saw dust to absorb the
oil--then baking or heating them to drive out more of the
oil--but--and--you have been warned !!--don't try this in
your kitchen oven !!! it would work, of course, but you
wouldn't like the way your kitchen would smell afterwards.

hope this helps
