Making the assumption that the shock body and wingshaft are together as they should be, position the shock with it's back on a table, and the shaft pointing up then rotate the unit so that the mounting ears are level left and rightr on the side of the unit that is away from you.If the notch in the shaft then faces left, you have a CW unit (pass.side front, driver's side rear). If it faces right it's a CCW for the other two positions.

As a check on proper assembly - on a CW unit, the fill valve should be at the 5:00 position - on a CCW unit the fill valve is at 7:00.There should be vent plugs at 11:00 and 1:00.

When you install the cover, the filler plug should be at 30 degrees (11:00) on CW units, and 30 degrees (1:00) on CCW.
