Bill,
I don't know the background of the tillotson, but in 1969-70 +/- we ran them because we could by them new from the local auto parts store for around $15.00. Any new carb would likely run better than a worn out Zenith. I bought a '29 Roadster in 1975 with a decent Zenith with all original jets, etc. (probably the best part of the car!) and haven't run a Tillotson since.

If your Tillotson runs well, use it at least until you can properly restore an original Zenith Carb with a tight throttle shaft and original jets. Some have claimed success with soldering and properly resizing replacement jets, but I cannot speak to that. I have only used originals since testing and rejecting new jets many years ago.

If you ever have a properly restored Zenith carb I suspect you will never return to the Tillotson.

Regards,

Marco
