G'Day Bill,
The split skirt should always be fitted opposite to the thrust side of the cylinder, in other words the side which the piston pushes on to get the crank to rotate on the power stroke. This is almost always the right hand side of the engine on conventional automobiles, so the pistons should be fitted with the split to the left or opposite the camshaft side on the "A". If you gently clean off the tops of the pistons on a wire wheel I'm sure you'll find that they're marked front in one way or another, either with a dimple, arrow, notch or even the word front. The dippers are fitted correctly as the open side must face the direction of rotation in order to pick up oil from the oil tray.

: Which way is the correct position of the expantion slot in the piston ? Toward the cam or toward the starter? When I deassembled the engine the pistons were two in one way and two the other , but all had the dipper toward the cam.

:Thanks Bill
