G'Day George,
Originally a mix of glycerine & achohol (to stop the glycerine freezing) was used, but I'm sure prohibition started the downfall of this cocktail. I'm not sure if it's still available over there but we used to be able to buy a "Bel-Ray" motorcycle fork oil in different weights, however any non-foaming hydraulic oil has to be better (and cheaper) than the original mix.
