dan---the old pictures of the assembly lines show the car bodies suspended from overhead conveyors----but----they were held in padded frames made for the purpose----lifting the body with a chain-fall and slings to timbers through the door and side window openings might carry the risk of some localised bending or deformation of the metal in the openings, unless you arranged suitable padding. i wouldn't be willing to risk that on my own car.

we've used a simple, tho tedious method here which works well.
after loosening everything necessary, we'd lift the body with a floor jack (trolley jack) and bits of timber, placing thicker and thicker boards between body and chassis frame until we had room to slide long 4x4's across. these were then lifted a bit more for clearance, and supported on improvised trestles

a "cheap and cheerful" body dolly is a plywood sheet, cut to body width, and fitted with swiveling wheels
