: i'd like to add a minor detali, if i may,----after taping the field coils, a good idea is to paint them with an insulating varnish---best one is "glyptal" a general electric product---its often available at electrical or electronic supply firms in small bottles as the generic "red glpt"--

: you can also use a tiny dot of glyp to keep small screws
: from loosening---hence the old saying---"glyp it and ship it"

: hope this helps

Glyptol is good stuff!

In the powerplants we used to rebuild pump and gear casings and paint one or two layers of Glyptol on the inside of the casing. The coating is impervious, seals against any oil leakage through pores in the casting and presents a clean, refurbished interior to the machinery which makes diagnosis of failure modes (when they happen) easier.

I intend to paint the inside of the next transmission rebuild with Glyp.

Best regards,
Joe
