: G'Day Pat, :I don't have an electroplater which I could recommend, (& I wouldn't reccomend the bloke who did my job anyway) but here's how I had my nickel plating (which was original but requires looking after) done with a satin finish. I'm not sure if it'd be acceptable for blue ribbon judging, but it looks good to me & seems to compare favourably with vehicles & pictures I've seen, even though I was charged twice for the same job. : 1)All items were "reverse plated", in other words all of the remaining electroplating was removed by electrolysis, then returned to me & were ground, sanded, polished & buffed to a mirror finish. : 2)The parts which were to have a satin finish were bead blasted using grade "C" glass beads & the emergency brake handle was masked off using P.V.C. insulation tape to get a definite cut off line & also to prevent the beads eating it away. : 3)All parts were then "heavy copper plated" & returned to me for a repeat polishing & "light" bead blasting of the satin areas. : 4)The final process was applying the nickel plating & emphasising to the electroplater that "NO POLISHING" was to be carried out on the satin areas. : I feel that even having to have the job re-done & for the amount of personal effort involved, the finish was what I'd been trying to achieve & is a lot better than some I've seen. I'd be happy to advise on the buffing & polishing if you're willing & have the equipment to tackle the job yourself. : Regardz : DJ. : OutOfAfrica A's
