Manifold Heaters

Has anybody out there done any research or testing to see if an Autolite heater manifold restricts the flow of exhaust through the manifold (back pressure)?
It looks as if when they were cast for the "Waffle" on top that the manifold loses about half it's diameter.I would like to use one of these heaters but would hate to have the engine performance suffer after all this work.Thanks for any info you can share.
