: With 12v convewrsion I now have terrible noise on my cb radio. What has anyone done to resolve this problem. It was not there before the 12v conversion! thanks Ed

Hi Ed:From what you said about the noise not being there
before the 12 volt conversion I take it the noise is from the
electrical system. High voltage ( spark plug ) noise causes a
popping sound in a m radio receivers but can quickly be identified by removing the antenna. If the noise stops, then it is high tension noise. Altenator and generator noise is
also easy to detect, it causes a whinning or hissing sound that is unaffected by removing the antenna and will increase
in amplitude and pitch when the engine speed is increased.
Stopping the engine will eleminate the noise. Your local
Radio Shack Store will sell inline filters for this problem
that will stop or greatly reduce the noise. If the problem
turns out to be high tension related, the cure is not so easy.
Most better quality c b radios have a noise blanker that will
help with the noise, but will not always cure it completly.
Noise blankers work by detecting strong pulse type noises in
a radio receiver and blanking the audio for a split second so
the sound is not heard. This sometimes creates distortion if
someone very close to you transmits and forces the radio to
blank too much audio. If this should occur, you will know
whats happening and not think your radio is defective. The Model A , with its open wire spark system generates a lot
of emissions and some noise will likely creep into the radio receiver, but let's hope this is not your problem.

Good Luck:Dick Sparks
