G'Day Al,
The first thing you need to do is remove the snap ring that retains the seal in the hub, then take a screwdriver or thin lever with a fairly wide flat blade & slide it in behind the seal (grease retainer) above the roller bearing housing, trying to get it as far in as possible in order to lift on, or close to, the outer diameter of the seal from the inside. If you work around the seal a little at a time, changing the position of the lever in relation to the seal in a star type pattern in order to try & get the seal out straight without cocking it in the housing. You may find it'll be easier if you put about a 45 degree bend in the screwdriver / lever about 1 1/2" from the end so it doesn't foul on the inner diameter of the seal.

: I'd like to get a look at my rear wheel bearings. Is there an approved way to get the grease retainer out of the hub? Or, even not approved?
