Fred

D.J., Doug, Joe and Glen are all correct in their advice, but their suggestions apply more to someone re-inserting their engine back into an otherwise assembled car, one with the body already mounted.I assume the body is off your frame, and if it is I would suggest going the extra step of installing the engine and flywheel housing into the frame before the tranny and rear axle are put in.This way you can have the full wieght of the engine supported by the flywheel housing at the rear motor mounts when you check the accuracy of the mounting surface around the edge of this housing using the crank mounted bar, before mounting the flywheel, and also with the flywheel mounted bar across the flywheel after the flywheel is put on. The flywheel housing is very flexible, and the number of shims necessary to trim it true are different mounted on an uninstalled engine compared with having the weight of the engine and flywheel supported in the motormounts. You will have to remove the rear axle and spring to do this, and the transmission also, but if the body is off that's a small amount of extra work compared with what you have already spent!
Good luck

: Happy Days are here again,
: Just recieved the rebuilt short block back from complete overhaul.$1800.Labor, I suplied parts.ouch! The rolling chassis is sitting here with the front end attached to the bell housing and everything including trany is installed except, clutch and flywheel. My question is; How do I proceed with lining the engine to the flywheel to the tranny? Should I disconect the bell housing from the frame and attach to the block with the tranny still in place? Is it ok to install the timing cover and mount the engine before putting the head on etc.etc.Thanks in advance for the help. Best Regards,Fred
