1928AR Cowl Lacing

The cowl lacing on my 1928AR Sport Coupe does not extend down the side of the firewall.In fact the fire wall does not have the flange that the cowl lacing attaches to.In looking at the fire wall it does not appear that the flange ever existed. Can someone tell me if this was a feature of early 28's or has the flange been cut off.
