The picture refered to is a very nicely done drawing done by Ed Eaton that accompanied an article in the "Model A News" in 1986. However, it was based on drawings provided by Champion that included all similar plugs designed during the period. Champion did not include production information that would have told when or if the various plugs were produced, or what manufacturer/model they were originally intended for. The 3x plugs depicted do not accurately represent what appeared on the "A". We do know that the 3x plug was the only plug provided by Ford for the Model A and was probably used on early Model "B" production.

Unfortunately this doesn't get us any closer to the answer to Frank's question. I don't have a model B head to compare the depth and shape of the combustion chamber around the spark plug. This would help reach a logical conclusion. I ran some C-4 plugs in the '70s with no appreciable difference, but am inclined to think they should be at least a little less efficient due to the reduced depth.

: See http://www.mafca.com/images/champion2.jpg for a picture of the original C-4's

: From the dates shown I might imagine that they were extensively used on the Model B's and Model 18 engines.
