: My uncle has an oppurtunity to purchase a reasonably priced, mostly restored 1928AR Sports Coupe. Our problem is that we know very little about this body style and have had little luck even finding a picture on the web. : Some questions are: What doe it cost to restore the fabric and wooden top of these cars and who are some of the suppliers of these items? Are there differences between early 1928 Sport Coupes and later 1928/29 ones? This is also a Canadian car, any further differences? What was the purpose of the Sports Coupe, did it originally cost more or less than a regular coupe?Today, Sports Coupes do not seem as common, are they rarer or just less collectible? : Thanks for the help, I realize that these question may be terribly simple but judging by the activity in this question room I thought it would be the best place to get a straight answer. : Thank you. Michael, I can't help you on some of the cost questions since I haven't restored or priced the special materials needed for a Sport Coupe. However, if you go to the Model A Ford Club of America website there is a photo of a 28/29 Sport Coupe.Go to the References section and then to the data sub-section.There is also a section on production numbers of the different body styles. There is also a photo of a member's Sport Coupe in the Model A album section. Then you might want to go to the members on the net section and see if you can find some of the Sport Coupe owners and contact them. As to the Canadian questions, the Model A Ford Judging Standards and Restoration Guidelines, available from either one of the national clubs has a whole section devoted to Canadian production. In 1929, the Sport Coupe and the Standard Coupe price was $550, a Business Coupe was $525 and the Cabriolet was $670.So you could get a car that looked like the Cabriolet (a convertible type body) for a Standard Coupe price. The world-wide production from the data on the website is not divided by year but shows Sport Coupes at 315,550 and Standard Coupes at 539,786.Then there are Business Coupes and DeLuxe Coupes also. Now for personal opinion, Sport Coupes are very desirable, a great looking car.I wonder if because of the soft top that they would not be quite as "survivable" in deteriorating conditions as the steel top versions?...
