Could it be your brakes?

The fact that the shimmy disappears after a while might indicate the brake drum on one side is rubbing slightly and has heated up and expanded to the point where it no longer rubs.

To test, try the car when it is cold.Drive a short distance, stop without using the brakes (coast to a stop or use the e-brake judiciously) and then check to see if one of the front drums is warm or hot.

Pinning down the root cause of your rub will be next.Might be wheelbearing adjustment or simple brake adjustment or setup (I'm thinking about the problem of centering the pads here) or possibly a warped drum.

Let us know what you find.

Joe
