: I read your messages and went back and looked closer at mine.

: It does have 2 brushes. There are 3 terminals

: 1. Is a ground and is connected to the case.
: 2. Is connected to one of the brushes.
: 3. Is connected to the coil.

: Any help will be appreciated. Also, there seems to be a mounting bracket missing on mine. I have one side which mounts in the front next to the pully, but no other. I saw a picture and it looks like the other bracket screwd on.

: Thanks,

sounds like a previous owner fitted a later type gen, one of the terminals is "armature" ,"a" ,or "arm" the other is "field", "f", or "fld" this was used with a "voltage regulator" or "dynamo control box". some generators will have stamped markings or a data plate indicating the maker and model no. if you don't have or can't get this info, you may not be able to get the correct control box. the first decision would be whether or no you would prefer to restore your ford to original specification, using the 3 brush gen with a cut-out (you must set the charge rate yourself by advancing or retarding the brush lead) and the other original equipment (6v battery, starter, coil, lights, etc.) if so, you have the advantage of ready parts availability and simplicity, also you can simply follow the ford manual. on the other hand, if you have or wish to learn some electrical skills, you could fit up a 6 or 12 volt generator-regulator system, or an alternator if you prefer. on balance, refitting original equipment is to be preferred, in my opinion.

hope this helps
