: i'm thinking about this one as a safe, reliable, gentle-use roadworthy car, not a freeway commute warrior, but not a display-only show car.

Well, I guess I can't keep my 2 cents worth in my pocket, so here goes.
I (actually my Dad) bought my '29 Town Sedan when I was 14.It was a "nice old original" car that had not been restored but had been repainted somewhere along its 38 years of its life at that point. It had spent the latest part of its life in a one car shed and before that as someone's "hunting car". (Not sure who or what was being hunted, as there are still bullet "marks" on the passenger side.)It needed some brake work and a new engine. These were taken care of and later after letting the differential run dry, a new ring and pinion were put in.Wiring was eventually replaced. Some parts were replaced with repros (I regret that part) and the bright work was re-chromed (before I realized it should have been nickeled).
But for the most part it has remained unchanged on the exterior.Still has the same old paint job with thirty something year old repaint on the fenders since their enamel was pretty much gone.
It has been on 900 mile excursions in the summer and winter excursions in the snow.It won't win any blue or red ribbons (or white or green). But it sure is fun to drive and most folks like to stand around and discuss the bullet holes and the original paint left on the running board aprons and not be afraid that they are going to scratch some paint or stain some upholstery. The kids that grew up in the back seat are now 17 and 20 and drive it themselves on tours.
The frame still has some Kansas dirt on it that has been there for who knows how long. It is now covered with almost 30 years of Texas dust.
Don't mess up a good thing and don't fix what ain't broke.
Enjoy it!
John
