: WHEN I BOUGHT MY COUPE, IT HAD A PUSH BUTTON FOR THE STARTER.

: I LOOKED AT MY STARTED AND THERE ARE 2 SCREW HOLES ON IT. DID THE ORGINAL STARTER SWITCH SCREW HERE AND THE PUSH BUTTON ON THE STERING WHEEL CONNECTS TO IT. IF IT DOES, HOW IS IT WIRED.

: IT MAY BE A SIMPLE QUESTION, BUT WHEN YOU DONT HAVE A AROUND YOU TO LOOK AT, IT AINT EASY.

: ALSO, WHAT ARE THE TWO LEVERS FOR ON THE SIDE OF THE STERING WHEEL. I THINK ONE IS A MANUAL LEVER FOR THE GAS. THE OTHER SEEMS TO GO THE THE DISTRIBUTOR.

: THANKS.

please forgive me if i am belabouring the obvious, but from your questions i suspect you may not be familiar with the use of a manual-advance distributor. your manual will show you how to make certain the basic spark timing is adjusted correctly, then remember to ---always---- follow the directions about fully retarding the spark (spark lever fully up on ford and chevrolet, fully down on dodge and most others) to start.

trying to start the engine with the spark advanced could damage the starter drive, or if you're hand cranking, could break your arm. this is no joke!! also, remember that a ford will sometimes kick back anyway so always remember to hold a crank safely, with your thumb alongside your fingers, not over the crank handle.

quite a few ford model a owners , years ago would fit modified starters, with a terminal like the v8 starter, and the solenoid and press-button from a v8. this was common, and yours may have been redone this way.

another common upgrade was to fit a replacement centrifugal- advance distributor, so that the driver would'nt have to bother with manually advancing and retarding the spark

hope this helps
