I use a similar process as Jack except I've never tried the drill. First I soak it for several days in penetrating oil. Next I go in to the end that the rod will come out of and straighten the corner that is turned in to keep the rod from walking out. Then I get a punch close to the size of the rod's outside diameter and punch it out an inch. Then I get a punch that fits inside of the rod and put it in and then grab it with the vise grips and do a lot of pulling and twisting. Good luck!
