Did you check the piston ring gap?I allways check this after having an engine bored.Take your rings one at a time and slide them into there respective cylinders,use the piston to slide them down about the middle of the stroke,then using a feeler guage check there end gap.They make inexpensive tools to file ring ends to correct spec. Lower ring-.008 to .010,center ring-.010 to .012,upper ring .012 to .015 .Also check ring groove clearance .001 .
