Oil Pump Sping or Springs?

I am confused??
The book I order my parts from offers a short and a long spring for the oil pump. The short spring is attached to the oil pan cover and presses up un the pump to keep it seated.
It is the only spring that i found anywhere around the pump. The long spring is for the shat in the oil pump, but I cant find a diagram showing it or its position.
Is it missing from mine or is it an option to put it?

There is also a small hole which is plugged on the side of the shaft. Is that where an oil pressure guage goes?

One more question.Does the oil screen work good enough or should I get one of those adapters to put an modern oil filter. If so, is there an easier way than I have seen and cheaper.
