I filled the tank of my dune buggy, I should say corn field buggy, added stabil before putting it away for winter, I do this to displace the oxygen due to it's corrosiveness with aluminum stuff. Did I know it's the oxyenated fuel? Nope! It dissolved the aluminum tank, the heavy "new chemical" filled the carb, filter and fuel pump leaving behind solid aluminum as it evaporated. What fun to clean out. The the stiff even ate holes thru the tank! The thing to do is to drain the system completely!!

: Everyone is right to a point. The Model A does just fine without lead. However the gas we are being sold now is really really causing other problems I see because of the other additives. Without getting technical the "alcohol" added to the gas to reduce emmisions is raising havoc with the old gas tank sealers, rubber hoses and almost everything it comes in contact with. It does a good job of cleaning your gas tank however everything that is disolved or dislodged goes downstream... you know where. Another problem is that as the gas ages in the tank, exposed to air, it's physical properties change. An example is to fill a small jar with gas, drill a small hole in the lid and put it up for a week. Then do another jar and set it beside the previous. Do this for about six weeks and compare the first with the last. The color and the viscosity are dramatically changed. This stuff is death to the parts in the newer (strombergs, etc.) carbs in that it eats the power valves, etc. It swells the rubber in gas lines... real good stuff.

: In my motorhome I installed a fuel shutoff at the tank where I could reach it and I shut the gas off and let the engine burn what remains in the carb and hoses. Believe it or not it is easier to start after a month of this than before.... Progress.

: The Model A Fool.

: : Someone said I should be using lead additive in my 30 coupe.Any experts out there that know if this is true?
