Hello Fred & DJ,

Just a comment on the finish. The correct finish is definitely bright nickel. Most of the originals I've seen appear to be made of zinc, but I haven't done any tests to confirm. Even my original Fordor has no plating remaining on the outside (I'm sure the back does).

The description offered in the Judging Standards regarding the chrome in 1932 is really an effort to explain (the embarrasment of) many years of being in error. It had previously been listed as chrome finish because people were studying NOS parts instead of original cars and production records.

Regards,
Marco

: G'Day Fred,
: I've measured my horn rod on my mid 30's Town sedan & it's 45 31/32" or 1168mm from the back of the light switch flange to the bottom of the "C" clip groove. I have the Gemmer steering box & the Bratton's part # is A 3616-H. I've had my light switch bright nickel plated (for the second time & it's still not right) as per the Judging Standards chart on page 8-1 (1994 revision), & the way I read them, if you have the zinc replacement issued in Oct '32 it should be chrome plated but would obviously not be original & so wouldn't match the nickel plated finish on the dash etc. I'm not qualified to comment as far as judging's concerned but there must be someone out there who is.

: : Restoring my early 30 Town Sedan I've noticed the light switch
: : rods top finish seamed like a dull lustered aluminum metal.Checking in the Judging Standards I was surprised a little to discover this rod was produced March thru June 1928.
: : I am having a hard time getting the proper measurment on the length to match up with one of the five sizes produced from 28 thru 31.The top of the rod has what appears to be bakelite or plastic piece at the plate end. Also the rod tube has a seam that runs the length of the rod.Question one; At what points do I measure rod lengths. Two;In Oct.32 a 30-31 horn light assembly was released for service replacement that was made of zinc. How can I tell if its aluminum or zinc? OK ,one last question what finish is original early 30 and does it match the current reproductions or should I try to find an excellant original? Sure could use some learned pro help here. Thanks in advance for any info. Fred Murphy
