The current Group 1 batteries are NOT the same size as the ones that originally fit the Model A battery box, but they're the closest thing that's available.They're a bit smaller and will not fit in the box snugly.
I've made some shims from pieces of pine right-angle molding that I paint black and slip into the four corners to take up the slack.They're almost invisible and they keep the battery from shifting around while you're putting the top clamps on the battery.
