: I don't know what the number on the body means.Maybe John Icenhower will chime in.It sounds like your engine has been re-labeled at some point because that number doesn't relate to a '30.The number was stamped on the frame during the assembly process. It usually is on the top of the frame underneath the cowl on the driver's side.Unfortunately, in most cases it is not possible to see it unless you remove the body.

Chime!
I think that Dave Sturges answered the question about the R number as a Rouge plant number. He would like additional info to add to his data base on plant assy numbers. Again with the possibility of replacement of the engine the closest you can get to an assembly date is to find the frame number and estimate the assembly based on engine production and car production numbers.Sometimes these lagged one another. As Marco has elaborated several times, the original engine/frame number is only a close approximation of the date the car was produced. Also I remember there was a post about the engine number being a 7 digit (leave out the "i").
If anyone is at the SouthWest Swap meet at the Ballpark in Arlington, TX this weekend stop by and say hi.Exit gate on Sat from 8-10am and entrance gate on Sunday 6-8am. Or over by the Dallas MAFC space by the car corral.Good hunting!
Hope this helps,
John
