: hello, steve, i'd be tempted to suspect a resistance somewhere in the wiring or terminals of the primary side of the ignition wiring. any corroded wire, wire with broken strands at a terminal, etc., or just well oxydised terminals could be the likely suspects ---- have a look at the wire inside the armoured cable -- clean the dist body and the cyl head to be certain of a good ground there. a high resistance in the ign switch could be a possibility, from oxide formation on the contacts. coils will sometimes become a problem also, for seemingly no good reason --- it couldn't hurt to try another coil, just for purpose of experiment. let us know what you find carla |
