Gordon,
I agree that the Model A engine is not considered a 'hot running' engine (certainly not high revving!).My concern though is about isolated hot spots on bearing surfaces where the marginal oiling system is not doing its job. This is the biggest reason I think synthetic is the way to go for a fresh Model A engine.Do they justify the added cost?Well, do you always get a return on insurance policies?Besides, synthetic is coming down in price now and can be had for less than $3.00 a quart.

As far as the new synthetic blends go, the talk on the BMW list is that they typically only have enough synthetic content to be able to market it as such.Certainly not bad oil, but if this is true I doubt it's worth the extra $ over regular oil.

: In the case of the "A," what do synthetics contain that is desirable, relative to detergent oils, since the "A" is not a particularly hot-running engine?Do the additives contained in synthetics justify the added cost, if oil is changed every 500 miles?

: Thanks for the posting!
