I don't know if your talking about As or new cars.One warning if your thinking about new cars. My new Ford pickup (with a v8 4.6 liter) owners manual states use 5w-30 oil.Ford really means 5w oil and my ford dealer told me to definitely stop using the Shell Rotella oil.He said the pickup tube in the pan is too small for 15w40 oil.Ford has abulletin out on this as it was discovered on Police vehicles, crown victorias in South Texas.In fact I delivered the car myself when I sold fleet Fords, (I don't do that anymore, would starve first).I do use Rotella in my Ford 302 V8.
