Hey Anthony,
If you could be more specific as to exactly why he cannot advance his ignition , this would be a tremendous help.
As far as running the engine retarded for extended periods of time, the results are numerous and not good.Prolonged running of an engine in a retarded state may result in a few or all of the following conditions
Lack of full power/speed potential
Overheating
Badly fouled spark plugs
Carbon buildup on pistons and valves
glowing exhaust manifold
I'm sure there are many more that I haven't listed!
Chances are this advancing problem is a very easy mechanical fix.It's just not worth the potential problems caused by this condition.My suggestion is to not drive the car any further until this problem is corrected.You'll be much better off in the long run.
