Radiator -Turn on Vs. Screw on rad cap / rad neck

I've recently picked up a new rad cap for the old girl and when looking at the cap ( with Motometer ) note that the cap is a 'screw on ' type.... in other words, threaded.
The unfortunate part is that the neck on the radiator is a turn on type; push down and turn a couple times & you're done.
Is there anyway of threading the neck?Or is it simply a matter of getting a new neck welded / soldered on?
