: Is there a modern four speed transmission that is a reasonable fit for a Model A?How much is entailed in making such a conversion? It seems to me that if one were available it would be a lot simpler than installing an overdrive...am I correct?

I have used a Wilton 4-speed over drive trans in my '31 wagon and '31 panel delivery (Gadabout truck) for the last 6 years. The trans is now made by D&J. It is expensive but you get what you pay for. There are no modifiacation nessecary to the car. The unit comes with cut down torque tube, drive shaft, rear radius rods, universal joint, clutch, pressure plate and pedal shaft. It is a bolt in unit. I have driven the wagon over 30,000 miles including trips from Pennsylvania to Tacoma Wash. This year I drove the truck to Jacksonville Florida. The unit works perfectly in all types of driving. If you are serious about touring in your "A" it is the only way to go.
