: This is a question regarding coil connections.I always thought that the black wire went from the driver's side of terminal box to the driver's side of coil (-) and that the red wire went to the passenger side of coil (+).I was watching the Model A video "ROADSIDE TROUBLE SHOOTING" and it showed the red wire on the driver's side and the black on the passenger side of the coil.Which is correct?I have a coil with the welded on bracket so it can't be reversed and it looked as though the car in the video also had the original style coil.

If you're using a modern coil all you need to remember is the pole marked + goes to ground via the ignition and distributor points. the negative (-) pole goes to the battery via the terminal box.Of course this assumes the original POSITIVE (+) GROUND system.

Now the background. The polarity of the original coil was not marked.Initially the positive ground wire of the coil (black) was on the passenger side.In late '29 the core of the coil (insides) was turned 180 degrees so the positive ground side of the coil could be wired to the drivers side of the terminal box.The purpose was to allow the ignition circut to register on the ammeter while retaining the proper polarity of the coil.

I hope this makes sense!!!
