HELP -- CARBURETOR -- HELP

Posted by MGL on Sep. 17, 1998 at 07:33:45

My husband and I are rebuilding the CARBURETOR(the one with all brass fittings inside and out)of our 1928 ROADSTER PICK-UP.During disassembly, we noted there was no SECONDARY WELL nor is there any threads in the LOWER CARBURETOR BODY to accept the SECONDARY WELL.Is this the way they were manufactured in 1928??Markings on the CARBURETOR are (a) a single H directly under the THROTTLE SHAFT STOP; (2) cast on the direct opposite side of the H are what appears to be 1/4 inch numbers 38, and (3) directly under the H on the UPPER BODY HALF is a single H on the LOWER BODY HALF.NOTE:The CARBURETOR performed extremely well until the JETS and PASSAGES became clogged with SOFTENED PAINT.During disassembly, we discovered the ENTIRE CARBURETOR had been coated inside and out in what appeared to be the TAR LIKE JAPAN BLACK PAINT.The CARBURETOR, ALL PASSAGES, and ALL JETS have been cleaned by our local CARBURETOR REPAIR SHOP.The CARBURETOR is now ready for PAINTING and FINAL ASSEMBLY.What must we do???We have our ANNUAL Model "A" SHOW and JUDGING MEET on Saturday, 26 SEPTEMBER 1998.We appreciate any suggestions.THANKS!!
