: Is there a modern four speed transmission that is a reasonable fit for a Model A?How much is entailed in making such a conversion? It seems to me that if one were available it would be a lot simpler than installing an overdrive...am I correct? I have not heard of any such conversion. The only way this would accomplish the overdrive goal is if it were an overdrive transmission. Most 4 speed transmissions are still direct drive in high gear, so you would get 4 speeds, but still have a 3.78:1 final drive.I would guess that fitting a modern transmission to an early ford would be a big job, to fit the torque tube driveshaft in place.A friend of mine has a 39 ford tramsmission in his model A speedster, and knows where to get the brackets to mount the pedal shaft and wishbone to the later trans. This gives a syncromesh trans, but it still is the same final drive ratio. |
