: I ask Marco this question but I guess I should get more than one opinion, I am trying to find someone to paint my 28 driverthe painters tell me to go with base coat / clear coat but the guys in the club say to stay with enamel, what are the pro & con of the two paints ? Also my fordor will be Balsam green, Valley green & Pembroke gray , can someone translate these names into numbers that the paint store lady can understand. THANKS IN ADVANCEJW

I use urethane top coats. They last much better, stay shiny almost forever, and are not effected by sun or acid rain. They do shine too much for an imitation of laquer, but you could buff it down a bit, if it shined too much for you.Base coat/clear coat gives the best finished product, since you can repair minor mistakes in the clear, and the base is almost impossible to mess up.I sometimes use a one step urethane (PPG Concept) which does not have a clear coat top, and so does not have the "fake looking" deep finish, but looks more like a really good enamal job.My 48 Ford is enamal, and even though it is always garaged when not in use, the paint has faded a lot in 10 years.I just painted the roadster pickup I am sprucing up as a driver, and used the Concept, with good results.
Everybody has an opinion, and that's mine.
