: Gordon,

: There have been several stories in the Restorer about this. I recall that one even had staements from the oil companies. All of them said use detergent oil. They also said that the additives would not harm the babbit. As others have said the only reason to use non-detergent oil is if your engine has been running on non-detergent oil for some time and may have sludge build up which could be distrurbed by using detergent oil. Remember if you do not install an oil filter you should change the oil every 500 miles.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a computerized search engine for the national magazines!I'll start hunting through the Restorers that I have, although I don't recall reference to the subject in recent years. If others do remember the reference, please log on!

Thanks, Bob.

Gordon
