I Thought I might add that the bands themselves have an "inside" and "outside". The pin attatching lugs have an offset in them to align the band agaist the rim of the carrier. Put on backwards, the band can cock slightly and rub on the side of the drum, making noise and wearing the metal where it shouldn't! The release spring tabs provide the other two alignment points.
