Here's another possibility.Somewhat complex, especially for something that doesn't show and probably not worth the trouble unless you are showing your A.
A V-8 friend acquired a couple of original (or reproduction) batteries that did not have any electrolyte in them.He cut the top out and removed the rubber/plastic "walls" inside the battery itself. He then fitted one of the new "gel cell" batterys into the "box" and milled a piece of black plastic identical to the top of the box, leaving holes for the terminals from the "gel cell" in the correct location for the original battery. He had some NOS cell connectors that he attached to the top, as well as some original caps that screw into the new "top", so that now the battery looks identical to the original, fits into the holder exactly and has an extremely low maintenance power source.
Of course on the V-8's the battery is under the hood on the firewall in plain site and the Model A is hidden away.
Nevertheless, I thought this a clever way to get the latest technology into the original holder.
