: Any ideas on how to remove the bonded pads from brake shoes?A brake shop? The pads are almost brand new, but don't stop the car very well.

Back about 1962, my father bought a set of those new in the box. They were labeled "hard rock linings".They were certainly that. They probably would have lasted forever, if I didn't convince him they were unsafe, and should be replaced. My mother always insisted that I drive, since I was a kid, and drove more slowly and carefully in the town sedan. She knew the brakes were bad, since it was necessary to grab the hand brake to make a quick stop.We shortly thereafter replaced them with woven linings, which made a remarkable difference.

Since they are most likely asbestos, I would not reccommend trying to remove them yourself. If fact if they were mine, I would find some used shoes, and reline them, and get rid of the bonded shoes.

A truck shop that relines shoes may have a method of removal, and safe or not, at least you won't be breathing the dust.
