Michael,

There is no true VIN number on a Model A. When the engine was put into the chassis the engine number was stamped on the frame. Some body styles had a body tag rivited to the engine side of the fire wall just below the paten plate, or on some earlier cars on the body cross member just in front of the passenger seat. These tags are mainly found on car that were produced by Murray or Briggs. I do not think the coupes had such a tag. Anyway this tag will have a number that represents the body style. It sounds like you have a special coupe. There should be a metal moulding that holds the top material down along the edges. If it is a converted regular coupe this piece might be missing. The regular coupe will have metal on the outside of the car around the rear window.
There is also a groove at the back of the roof going from left to right for the top molding on the regular coupe and not the special coupe.

Bob
